Pigs
Up

Pigs are a long range goal for us.  We need to get our property surveyed, fenced, and cross-fenced before we are ready to begin serious pig planning.  Currently we favor Tamworths, which are listed on the ALBC's Conservation Priority List with a status of Threatened, meaning there are fewer than 1000 annual registrations in the United States and estimated fewer than 5000 global population.

Though Tamworths are not as large as many popular hog breeds, we favor them because they have dark skin so are not very susceptible to sunburn, are supposed to be excellent mothers, and good foragers.  They are a lean hog and good for bacon.

We plan to raise our pigs on pasture, not in a pen or an enclosed building.  Check the resources page for information on pasture raised pigs.
